As this piece dried in it's roughed out form it developed a split at the opening, rather than
throw the piece away or disguise it I used powdered Bronze in two part epoxy making a feature of it. There were also some cracks around the base which I filled and also added a two rows of stylised feathers. The piece was then coloured to emphasise the prominent grain. The English Boxwood lid has been decorated with grooves filled with holographic Ruby epoxy and has a hand-cut 12 tpi thread ensuring a secure closure.

Each piece is hand turned by me from green wood. They are twice turned, the first time they are roughed out and left to dry for up to 6 months. Once the piece is dry they are taken back to the lathe, the shape is refined then multiple coats of stain are applied to enhance the hidden figure. Up to 6 coats of lacquer are applied to give a long lasting durable finish.
