Spalting is any form of wood coloration caused by fungi and is divided into three main types: pigmentation, white rot and zone lines resulting in spectacular patterns and colours. The zone lines are different fungi erecting barriers to protect their patch from their neighbours, once the wood is dried the process of decay is arrested.

The pin holes and voids in this piece have been filled with powered Aluminium in two part epoxy making a feature rather than trying to disguise them.
This piece has three coats of hardwax oil, an eco friendly mixture of natural oils and waxes designed protect and enhance interior wood products giving it a soft satin sheen. The English Boxwood lid has a 16tpi hand cut thread and corresponding insert to ensure a secure closure.
It measures 320 mm H x 150mm D and has a capacity of 3.2ltrs.
